Shanghai Disneyland is the newest attraction in Shanghai and
was opened in June 2016. It is the only Disneyland on Mainland China although
there is a Disneyland in Hong Kong. The theme park is part of the Shanghai
Disney Resort which includes Shanghai Disneyland Hotel and Toy Story Hotel.
Although the theme park offers everything you would expect from Disney it does incorporate
Chinese cultural elements. For example at the center of the park is an 11 acre park
featuring Chinese zodiac signs. Main Street USA has been called Mickey Avenue
and the normal Disney themed areas have been slightly changed for example
Adventure Land is Adventure Isle and there is no Frontier land, It’s a Small
World, Space Mountain or Jungle Cruise as these themes are too associated with
Western colonialism. There is more live entertainment than in other Disneylands
and more picnic areas. Themed areas with all the regular rides include
Fantasyland (with the largest Disney castle in the world); Treasure Cove;
Tomorrow Land and Toy Story Play land. Like all Disneylands there are eateries,
costumed characters, entertainment and special events.
Other Disney related things to do include visiting the
entertainment and dining distinct – Disneytown which is adjacent to Shanghai
Disneyland. You could go to a performance of the Lion King (or other show) in
the Disney Grand Theatre. Wishing Star Park is another adjacent Disney site
where you can enjoy a beautiful park and playground.
