Sepulveda is a municipality town and popular tourist destination located in the province of Segovia. The town is a part of the autonomous region of Castile and Léon. Sepulveda is also culturally important given its rich historical legacy. It was declared a Historical Artistic site in 1951. Sepulveda is home to the famous El Salvador Church, which is among the first few churches to be built as per the Romanesque architecture the region. The church traces its history back to the 11th century. The church has one nave and a semicircular apse. There is also a tower in the church which is separate from the nave. The Santa Maria de la Pena shrine is also a notable monument of Sepulveda. The shrine was built in the 12th century and features a tympanum in the doorway. The shrine is adorned with motifs and figures of angels. It is located on the banks of the River Duraton and offers a stunning view of the surroundings. Sepulveda has several other interesting monuments also, such as the fortress of Fernan Gonzalez. To know more about the history and culture of the Sepulveda region, the Fueros Museum housed in the Santos Justo y Pastor Church, is worth a visit. Sepulveda is situated close to the Hoces del Rio Duraton nature reserve, known for its beautiful flora and fauna. It is culturally important as well as it has several significant monuments such as the ruins of the monastery of Nuestra Senora de la Hoz and the shrine of San Frutos.
