Russborough House is a wonderful example of Palladian architecture. This stunning and beautiful country mansion is located just 2 km from Blessington in County Wicklow, overlooking spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. The stately house is reputed to be the longest house in Ireland, with its frontage measuring 210 m/700 ft. The Russborough House was designed by Richard Cassels for Joseph Leeson, the First Earl of Milltown and built between 1741 and 1755. The interior of the house contains some ornate plasterwork on the ceilings by the Lafranchini brothers. It is often referred to as the most beautiful house in Ireland. Russborough houses one of the most impressive private art collections in Ireland which may be viewed by taking a guided house tour. The exhibition center will tell you the story of Russborough from 1741 to the present day. The parklands around the house are equally pleasing with a 20,000 sq ft maze, a fairy trail, a playground for kids and numerous walking paths. The 18th-century walled garden was under restoration since 2011 and has been recently opened for guided tours. Other highlights of the house include a self-guided interactive exhibition of film and 3D photographs, and a ‘Birds of Prey Centre’ that is located alongside the West Courtyard. The East and West Courtyards at the site house working artisans. To complement these attractions, there are lovely tea rooms at the site serving hot and cold beverages, snacks and light lunches. You can also stop by the delightful souvenir and craft shop at the end of your tour.
