La Casa del Mantegna Andrea Mantegna is a building built since the year 1476 in Mantua, on land donated by the marchese Ludovico Gonzaga, maybe prize for the frescoes of the Bridal Chamber. The date of this donation is that of October 18, 1476.
The authorship of the project is uncertain, so that even the same Mantegna is included among the possible authors. All that can influence the work of Leon Battista Alberti simultaneously active in Mantua. The church of San Sebastiano, before Alberti's work in the city, significantly is located in front of the Casa del Mantegna.
The architectural design is characterized by a perfect geometric design: a circle enclosed in a square in which the cylindrical courtyard is enclosed in a square building body. Connected by a circular path, the rooms overlook with arched doors or windows on the courtyard in the shape of a circle, clear modern revival of the atrium of a Roman house.
Currently the building houses temporary exhibitions and is the official seat of the cultural sector of the province of Mantua.
