Best Time of the Year to Visit Las Vegas
There is
hardly a bad time to visit Vegas. There isn’t one particular season that is
less crowded although if you go on weekdays there are fewer people than on the
weekends. In terms of weather most of the attractions are indoors and in any case
the weather is hardly even so bad that you couldn’t take a walk down The Strip.
There is a small off-season in the boiling hot months of July and August and
the colder January when hotel rates drop slightly. The high-season lasts almost
the whole year long from January to mid-November.
Spring - March-May, 9.7°C-31.6°C
This is a
great time for cool weather and many festive events. March is typically the
busiest and most expensive time to visit. In March you have the Spring Break,
NASCAR, COMDEX week and March Madness (annual national college basketball
tournaments). This makes it a good time for gamblers who want to bet on the
sporting events. Spring is also a time of food festivals in May and rodeos in
April.
Summer – June-August, 23.7°-40.1°C
If you don’t
mind the heat or are planning lots of time by the pool then this is an ideal
time to visit. You might find some bargains as July and August are a small
off-season period. The heat shouldn’t worry you though as you’ll spend a lot of
time in the air-conditioned hotels and attractions. Families tend to visit in
July and August and in July you’ll find a few sudden cloud bursts as it is one
of the city’s wettest months. Poker players should plan on visiting in May-June
when the World Series of Poker takes place. July 4th is one of the
most heavily booked days of the year in Vegas.
Autumn - September–November, 8.1°C-34.4°C
Like spring
this is a “shoulder season” when it is not too hot, not too cold, not too
expensive and not too crowded. In September there is the Las Vegas Greek Food
Festival and in October the Las Vegas BikeFest.
Winter – December-February, 3.7°C-16.9°C
Despite the
cold winter is a popular season to visit Vegas mainly because of the festive
Christmas and New Year’s celebrations. February is the city’s wettest month but
winter in Vegas is so mild the weather probably won’t make a dent in your
plans. These two holidays mean peak crowds and peak prices but lots of fun. If
you travel just before or just after these major holidays you might find
bargain deals. Vegas has many parties leading up to Christmas and there is also
the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in December. In early February the SuperBowl
brings fans around the sports bars and sports betting tables in Vegas giving
Las Vegas another reason to party. Valentine’s Day is another popular date to
visit Sin City. During January there can
be a few shows which take a hiatus although most Las Vegas attractions and
shows stay open year round. January can also be cheaper as the weather is at
its most unpredictable and people are back home recovering from their Las Vegas
Christmas and New Year hangovers.
