Hong Kong Disneyland opened in 2005, it covers 68 acres and is an American-style Disney themed amusement park. There are seven zones or "lands" in the park each with its own theme and amusement park rides. Main Street USA is designed to look like a typical American small town main street; Fantasyland featuring characters from famous Disney films; Adventureland has a jungle theme where you can take a boat ride down a jungle river and climb into Tarzan's treehouse; Tomorrowland, is a futuristic land; Grizzly Gulch looks like a remote abandoned gold-rush era mining town in the Wild West; Mystic Point has the mysterious Mystic Manor of eccentric explorer Lord Henry Mystic and in Toy Story Land everything has to do with the famous Disney film Toy Story.
There is an elevated narrow gauge railroad which travels throughout the park linking the different "lands". Apart from the amusement park rides, roller coasters and artistic decoration the park has restaurants, live shows and stores selling Disney related merchandise. Staff dressed as famous Disney characters walk around the park greeting visitors and posing for photographs. Annual events are celebrated in the park and there is a nightly firework display above Cinderella's castle and a daily parade.
Although based very closely on the American and European versions of Disneyland the designers have taken into account Chinese culture and traditions. For example the rules of feng shui were followed and Chinese customs and symbols are incorporated in certain places. The theme park staff speaks Cantonese, Mandarin, English, French and Japanese.
