Andrew Usher gifted the city of Edinburgh with £100,000 to build a grand concert
hall. The Usher Hall was eventually completed in 1914. The hall is a Beaux art building, on either
side of the building are the Royal Lyceum Theatre and the Traverse Theatre.
Even if you don’t go to one of the concerts it is worth passing by to see this
row of three outstanding buildings. The
Usher Hall auditorium can seat 2,200 and has recently been restored. The
building is a registered A list historic property. The theatre holds a grand
organ and three Steinway pianos. There is a beautiful café/bar and spacious
lobby.
