Costa Smeralda is on Sardinia’s northeastern coast between the Golf of Arzachena and the Gulf of Cugnana. It is one of the most expensive real estate areas in Europe. The Emerald Coast gets its name from the gorgeous color of the sea which washes up on the beautiful beaches and into hidden coves. The shore is spotted with granite rock formations, greenery, luxury villas, small ports and golf courses. There are also plenty of distractions for tourists like the nightclubs, bars and restaurants as in Porto Cervo which attracts the international jet set. Porto Cervo is the most popular center along the Emerald Coast; it has parks, boutiques, a marine with expensive yachts and the Stella Maris Church with a painting possibly done by Le Greco. Other exciting points along the Costa Smeralda include Porto Rotondo; Golfo del Pevero; Punta Capriccioli and Cala di Volpe. A drive along the coastal road promises breathtaking vistas across the emerald sea to small islands, steep cliffs and a backdrop of mountains.
