Denmark’s largest collection of cultural, ethnography, natural science,
archaeology and numismatics from around the world. 14,000 years of Danish
history are covered going as far back as the Ice Age and covering periods like
the middle ages and Vikings. You can see currencies from various periods and
even from other countries. There is a large collection of objects from ancient
cultures. Some of the most important events in Danish history are highlighted.
Among the most important artifacts in the collection are the Golden horns of
Gallehus, the Egtved Girl coffin, African masks, Egyptian mummies, an authentic
Victorian house, the prehistoric Trundholm Sun Chariot and the Gundestrup
Cauldron. There is even a hash stall from Christiania, Copenhagen’s bohemian
district. There is a children’s wing with kid-friendly interactive displays.
The museum’s
permanent exhibitions include Danish Prehistory; Danish Middle Ages and
Renaissance; Stories of Denmark; Royal Collection of Coins and Medals;
Classical and Near Eastern Antiques; Ethnographic Collections and the
Children’s Museum.
