The emphasis
at this museum is on learning through play; there are many ways that kids can
get hands-on and really involved physically in the various games and activities
of the museum. The exhibitions often change and include seasonal exhibits like
the Summer Boats: Captain Your Own adventure. In the Tinker
Lab kids can use real tools and materials to learn about DIY. Waterways
have a number of experiments where kids can get a bit wet learning about the
nature of water through pipes, wheels, pulleys etc. At the Dinosaur
Expedition kids can dig in a re-created Saharan expedition pit and see real
fossils, bones and skeletons. At Skyline kids can design and build their
own structures out of wood. The Kovler Family Climbing Schooner is a
three story ship-shaped climbing rig. Kids Town features kid-size adult
day-to-day activities like kid-size grocery stores, cars, buses and car wash.
At Treehouse Trails the focus is on learning about camping kills,
fishing, forest survival, mountain life, cabin building and riverside skills.
At the Kraft Artabounds Studio kids can express themselves artistically.
There are designated areas for very young visitors with games and play areas. Michael’s
Museum is an area full of trinkets, miniature and little object for kid to
discover. The museum has facilities for baby changing, eateries and special
regular activities and programs.
