The Port Discovery Children’s Museum in Baltimore is just the place where kids can explore and discover the world around them. One of the premier museums in the mid-Atlantic, the place was founded in 1976 as the Baltimore Children’s Museum. It was initially located in the historic property of Cloisters in the Baltimore County. However, the museum got relocated to the Fish Market building, another historic place, in 1998 after the Baltimore Children’s Museum merged with the Maryland Children’s Museum.
The museum has three floors of interactive, educational, and informational activities, programs, and exhibits dedicated to children up to the age of 10. It focuses on teaching tiny tots through the medium of play. There are many permanent and temporary exhibitions where kids can have fun learning by investigating, exploring, and touching. One such fun exhibit is the Adventure Expeditions, where young visitors are taken through a fun experience of traveling back to 1920s Egypt. The section is dedicated to deciphering hieroglyphics and searching for clues that will lead one to the lost tomb of a pharaoh in the exhibit.
Kids also have a wonderful time at the realistic 50s style Tiny's Diner in the museum, where they can cook and serve food to their mommy and daddy! The twist, however, is that the little ones have to use their skills in math for ringing up the orders at the cash register. There are many other equally interesting exhibits in the museum. It is no wonder that Forbes has ranked the place among the top five museums for children in the United States.
