The Jardin du Rocher des Doms is a
beautiful English-style garden at the top of the Rocher des Doms high above the
Rhone. The park was opened to the public in the 19th century and was
earlier a site that was popular among the locals for strolling and taking
outdoor walks. There is a lot to do and see at the Jardin du Rocher des Doms.
Walk among the beautifully manicured
gardens at the Jardin du Rocher des Doms. Just sit by the lovely pond and watch
the swans and ducks glide by and admire the statue of Venus with Swallows.
There are also koi carp in the pond. Visit the Côtes du Rhône vineyard inside
the Jardin du Rocher des Doms; this is the only vineyard inside a city in all
of France. Take in some fantastic views of the landscape around: Mont Ventoux, Île
de la Barthelasse, Villeneuve-lez-Avignon, and also Pont St-Bénézet. Walk down
from the vineyard and get to one section of the ramparts of the old city. Check
out the statues of famous people that dot the Jardin du Rocher des Doms. These
include statues of Jean Althen and also Felix Gras, besides the quite popular
Venus aux Hirondelles. There is also a sundial to view at the Jardin du Rocher
des Doms. Get your kids to go pedaling on the pony cards available at the
garden; there is also some fabulous ice cream to be had. Step into the lovely
Buvette Café for some snacks and wine.
Make sure you check out the weather
before heading to the Jardin du Rocher des Doms as it can get quite windy up
there. For those into taking photographs morning is a great time to go.
