If you want
a place to see the city from above then this is it. The Willis Tower offers you
the Skydeck Experience with 360° views of the city. On a clear day
you can see as far as four states (Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin). The
tower has 110 floors and stands at 1450 feet above the sidewalk; it is one of
the tallest buildings in the world. The Skydeck is on the 103rd
floor, 1351 feet above ground. On a windy day you can literally feel the
building swaying. Before reaching the actual observation deck visitors pass
through an interactive exhibition and movie presentation called “Reaching for
the Sky.
The journey
begins with a super fast elevator ride up to the observation deck. The elevator
takes just 60 seconds to reach the top. If you are feeling brave then “go out
on a ledge” literally. There are retractable glass balconies which extend 4 feet out of the façade. Visitors can stand in one of the three glass “boxes”
and look through the floor all the way down. This experience is even more
exciting once you know that in 2014 one of the glass floors shattered while
people were in the box! No one was injured. The cleverly marketed building has
a few catchy mottos like “110 floors, countless stories” and “Willis Tower,
more than meets the Skyline.”
